Carlos Sainz, a three-time Grand Prix winner with Ferrari, surprises by signing a two-year deal with Williams Racing.
Formula One driver Carlos Sainz has secured a deal with Williams Racing for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Currently in his final season at Ferrari, the Spanish driver holds the fifth spot in the Formula One (F1) driver standings.
“I am delighted to announce my move to Williams Racing starting from 2025," said Sainz. "The complexity of this year's driver market delayed my decision, but I believe Williams is the perfect place for the next chapter of my F1 journey. Joining this historic and successful team, where my childhood idols once raced, is a source of pride for me. I am excited about the challenge of elevating Williams back to the forefront of the grid,” he expressed.
Sainz clinched his third F1 victory at the Australian Grand Prix earlier this year, along with four third-place finishes, with the most recent at the Austrian Grand Prix in June.
The 29-year-old will take over from Logan Sargeant and partner with Alex Albon at Williams, while Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time F1 champion, is set to replace Sainz at Ferrari.
Despite interest from Sauber/Audi and Alpine, Sainz believes in Williams' capability to make history once again.
