Harris's Lead Overtakes Trump in US Presidential Polls

Vice President Kamala Harris has caught up to former President Donald Trump in the latest presidential race polling.

United States Vice President Kamala Harris has closed the gap with former President Donald Trump in the White House race, as per recent polling data. Harris, who became the de facto Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential campaign, has now drawn even with Trump in national and battleground state polls. Harris is currently leading Trump in four crucial battleground states, including Michigan where she holds an 11-point advantage, and in Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada where she leads by two points each. However, Trump maintains a lead in two states: Pennsylvania with a four-point margin and North Carolina by two points, while they are tied in Georgia. The outcomes in all states, except Michigan and Pennsylvania, fall within the margin of error. If the results were replicated on election day, the winner of Georgia would secure the presidency. In a separate survey conducted by the Democratic super PAC Progress Action Fund, Harris is shown to be ahead of Trump in Georgia by one percentage point. National polls also indicate a close race, with Harris holding a one-point lead over Trump in a Reuters/Ipsos poll. This positive shift in polling follows Harris's rapid rise in Democratic support after Biden's decision to step down due to flagging poll numbers linked to concerns about his age and health. Harris is set to be officially named the Democratic nominee soon and is expected to unveil her running mate shortly before embarking on a campaign tour of swing states crucial to the election outcome. During a recent campaign event in Atlanta, Georgia, Harris noted a shift in momentum in the race and observed signs that Trump was sensing the change. She also challenged Trump to honor his commitment to a debate in September after he hinted at the possibility of skipping it. Harris has targeted Trump's legal issues and his positions on healthcare and abortion, urging him to face her in a debate. Since Biden's exit reshaped the landscape, Trump has been attempting to paint Harris, who positioned to the left of Biden during her 2020 presidential bid, as an extremist on key issues like immigration and abortion. Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, have criticized Harris as a "wacky San Francisco liberal," as they intensify their attacks on her candidacy.
