Boxing: Usyk relinquishes IBF title after becoming undisputed heavyweight champion

Usyk confirms he is vacating the IBF belt shortly after achieving the status of undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion.

Oleksandr Usyk has officially announced his decision to relinquish his IBF title shortly after emerging as the undisputed world heavyweight champion.

The 37-year-old Ukrainian made history by holding the IBF, WBO, WBA, and WBC belts following his victory over Tyson Fury in a closely contested bout in Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago.

With a mandated rematch against Fury, Usyk is obligated to forego defending his IBF title against interim champion Daniel Dubois, setting the stage for a potential bout between Dubois and Anthony Joshua for the vacant championship at Wembley in September.

In a social media post, Usyk addressed Joshua and Dubois, stating, "I understand the significance of the IBF title to both of you. Consider it my gift to you on September 21."

Lennox Lewis of Britain was the most recent individual to unify the major heavyweight titles - three belts at the time - before Usyk accomplished this feat in 1999.
