White House Criticizes Edited Videos Alleging Biden’s Decline

Biden’s team refutes viral videos suggesting the President’s deterioration as misleading.

United States President Joe Biden’s team has accused his rivals of spreading misinformation regarding his physical and cognitive health following a series of viral clips that have raised renewed questions about his age.

During a news briefing on Monday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the videos claiming to depict Biden’s deteriorating condition had been deceptively altered or taken out of context.

“It illustrates how desperate the Republicans are,” Jean-Pierre told the media, calling the videos “cheapfakes.”

Recently, Republican social media accounts and conservative news outlets have shared videos allegedly showing Biden, 81, either freezing or wandering aimlessly.

One particular video captured Biden appearing to walk away from other world leaders during a skydiving demo at the G7 summit in Italy. However, versions circulated by right-wing social media and the New York Post were cropped to hide the parachutist Biden was actually approaching.

Another widely shared video shows Biden standing still while those around him danced to music at a recent Juneteenth celebration at the White House.

“The president stood and listened to the music, and he didn’t dance. I didn’t know not dancing was a health problem,” Jean-Pierre remarked. “Interestingly, some others around him weren’t dancing either.”

In another recent clip, Biden pauses before a crowd at a fundraising event for seven seconds before being ushered offstage by former President Barack Obama.

Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates posted on X that critics were unjustly portraying Biden’s brief pause before an applauding crowd as problematic to distract from his accomplishments.

Former President Donald Trump, Biden’s contender in the upcoming November election, has often criticized Biden’s age and fitness, although Trump, at 78, is only three years younger.

By the end of his term, either Biden or Trump would become the oldest president in US history.

Although some footage showing Biden weak or disoriented has been misleadingly edited, polls reveal that voters view Biden’s age as worrisome, with less concern directed at Trump’s health.

A New York Times/Siena poll in March showed that 73 percent of registered voters believe Biden is too old to serve effectively, compared to 42 percent who feel the same about Trump.
