A fatal train crash in Pardubice leaves four dead and numerous injured after a passenger train collides with a goods train.
A tragic incident occurred in Pardubice, Czech Republic, resulting in the loss of four lives and left many others injured as a passenger train collided with a goods train. The collision, which occurred in the evening, involved a train carrying over 300 passengers heading towards Ukraine.
Local emergency services confirmed that four individuals succumbed to their injuries, with some in serious condition among the 24 injured passengers. The route from Prague to the Ukrainian town of Chop was disrupted, affecting many international travelers on board.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala extended his sympathies for the tragic incident, referring to it as a significant disaster on social media.
Following the crash, extensive rescue efforts involving various emergency units were mobilized to aid in evacuating passengers from the affected train cars. The aftermath of the collision resulted in significant damage to the train carriages and necessitated the temporary suspension of railway services to certain destinations.
The goods train involved in the collision was transporting industrial chemicals, including calcium carbide, but fortunately, no leaks were reported. Investigators are diligently working to determine the cause of this devastating collision.
