McDonald’s adjusts breakfast hours in Australia due to bird flu impact on egg supply

McDonald’s in Australia is changing its breakfast service hours to address egg supply issues resulting from a bird flu outbreak.

McDonald’s restaurants in Australia have adjusted their breakfast schedule due to a shortage of eggs caused by the spread of avian flu.

The popular fast-food chain announced that they will halt breakfast orders at 10:30am instead of the usual midday time due to challenges in sourcing eggs.

“We are collaborating with Australian farmers and suppliers to normalize the situation promptly. Starting on Tuesday, July 2nd, make sure to check the clock for a satisfying breakfast,” McDonald’s Australia stated on their Facebook page.

Officials in Australia have confirmed cases of H7 avian influenza at 11 poultry farms nationwide since May.

In response to the outbreak, authorities have mandated the culling of over one million birds in Victoria, the epicenter of the outbreak, with additional culls planned in New South Wales.

While the impact has been limited to around 10 percent of the country's 20 million egg-laying hens, disruptions in egg supplies have been reported in retail, hospitality, and manufacturing sectors.

Consumers have been urged to purchase eggs responsibly, and major supermarket chains have implemented limits on egg purchases to manage demand.

Rowan McMonnies, Australian Eggs' managing director, reassured consumers that despite the inconvenience, there are over 20 million hens nationwide ensuring egg availability.
