Israeli military targets a Hezbollah site in central Lebanon, escalating tensions in the region. Hezbollah vows to continue fighting against Israel in support of Gaza ceasefire.
The Israeli military has conducted airstrikes on a Hezbollah site deep inside Lebanese territory, marking an escalation in hostilities between the two sides amidst Israel’s conflict with Gaza.
According to Israel’s military, the attack targeted a Hezbollah air defence system near the village of Janta, approximately 79km from Beirut.
These strikes represent a significant incursion into Lebanese territory, with previous attacks mostly concentrated in the southern region.
In simultaneous strikes, Israel also targeted a Hezbollah air defence site in Baraachit and a weapons depot in the Kfar Kila area.
Additional attacks using artillery, drones, and missiles hit various areas in the Bekaa Valley, as reported by Al Jazeera.
The recent escalations follow exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah in Syria and the Golan Heights, resulting in casualties on both sides.
Hezbollah has vowed to continue supporting Palestinians in Gaza and targeting Israeli military installations until a ceasefire is achieved.
Tensions have heightened as the conflict continues, with both sides engaging in frequent and intense confrontations along the Lebanon-Israel border.
Hezbollah maintains that its attacks on northern Israel will cease once Israel halts its offensive in Gaza.
Israeli officials have warned of further military action in Lebanon if diplomatic solutions are not pursued to address Hezbollah's activities near the border.
The exchange of fire serves as a deterrence strategy for both Israel and Hezbollah, illustrating their military capabilities and resolve.
The ongoing violence has led to casualties on both sides, with significant civilian evacuations along the border due to the escalating hostilities.
