Reports of multiple school attacks in Gaza by Israeli forces resulting in casualties and destruction.
Israeli forces have struck five different schools in Gaza in a span of eight days, resulting in the deaths of many individuals seeking refuge in them, as reported by Palestinian officials, medics, and rescuers.
The most recent attack on the United Nations-run Abu Oreiban school in the Nuseirat refugee camp occurred on Sunday, claiming the lives of at least 17 people and causing injuries to about 80 others. Palestinian Civil Defence stated that a majority of the victims were women and children.
Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud described witnessing severely burned women and children in pain at Deir el-Balah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the aftermath of the attack.
The assault on the school came after a more deadly strike hit tents near the entrance to Khan Younis's al-Awda school, resulting in the deaths of at least 29 individuals.
In addition to the escalating violence, a report by the UN Human Rights Council (OHCHR) in June highlighted that Israel's repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools, may constitute violations of international law.
Furthermore, the International Court of Justice suggested in January that Israeli attacks in Gaza could be interpreted as genocide, amid widespread destruction of schools, homes, commercial establishments, and roads in the region.
