Elon Musk Withdraws Lawsuit Against OpenAI, Alleging Betrayal of Original Mission

Musk had previously claimed that OpenAI abandoned its foundational mission to create AI for the benefit of humanity.

Elon Musk has retracted his lawsuit against OpenAI and its co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, in which he accused them of breaking their commitment to develop AI for the broader good of humanity.

Lawyers representing Musk in the United States requested a California judge to dismiss the case on Tuesday, as revealed in the court documents.

No explanation was given for the motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

In February, Musk had filed the lawsuit, arguing that ChatGPT had violated its initial mission of prioritizing humanity's welfare over profit-making by entering into an investment agreement with Microsoft.

"As of today, OpenAI Inc's website still claims that its objective is to ensure AGI 'benefits all of humanity'," Musk stated in the lawsuit.

"Yet, in reality, OpenAI Inc has turned into a closed-source, effectively a subsidiary of the largest technology company globally: Microsoft."

OpenAI dismissed Musk's allegations as "contrived" and stated that there was no foundational agreement or contract involving Musk.

The California-based company also accused Musk of attempting to benefit from its success after witnessing the "exceptional technological advancements" it had accomplished.

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but left the company after three years.

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX launched his own AI venture, xAI, last year.

Last month, xAI, OpenAI's competitor, announced it had secured $6 billion from investors, including venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and Saudi Arabian financier Prince Alwaleed bin Talal.
