Beryl storm leaves a path of destruction as it brings potential flash floods and tornadoes to multiple states in the United States.
Beryl has impacted the southern region of the US, causing devastation in Texas and triggering warnings of potential flash floods across multiple states. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) cautioned about the risk of flash flooding spreading from the lower Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes.
Possible tornadoes were also forecasted for Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Beryl made landfall in Texas as a Category 1 hurricane, hitting Matagorda town with wind speeds of 130km/h. Tragically, the storm resulted in fatalities in both Texas and Louisiana.
The aftermath of Beryl led to power outages affecting millions of residents while battling intense heat. The impacted areas, particularly around Houston, faced significant power disruptions, leading to essential services being compromised.
Authorities issued safety reminders, emphasizing the risks of high water levels and urging residents to assist vulnerable neighbors. Residents were advised to stay indoors due to the lingering hazards caused by the storm.
The recovery process in Texas, notably around Houston, was underway, with power restoration efforts expected to take several days. Climate experts highlighted the role of climate change in intensifying storms like Beryl, linked to warmer ocean temperatures fueling extreme weather events.
